Smilorexia is a form of obsessive compulsive type disorder characterized by the desire for a 'perfect smile.' The term was coined and first used in the book Confessions of a Former Cosmetic Dentist and reviewed in the New York Times.[1]

People with this condition often present to the dentist with exaggerated concerns about relatively mild aesthetic problems. People with this condition often end up getting extensive cosmetic dental treatment that is expensive and often unnecessary.[2]
